Newspaper Museum

Housed in a 15th-century building, Aachen’s International Newspaper Museum (Zeitungsmuseum) has been a center for the study of newspapers and media since 1931. With a collection of around 200,000 newspapers from all over the world, visitors can explore editions spanning centuries.

The museum’s collection includes not only regular publications but also rare and special editions, such as final issues or special supplements. One of the oldest newspapers dates back to the 17th century, making it a true treasure trove for history and media enthusiasts.

In addition to the permanent exhibits, the museum offers temporary exhibitions, a library, and an archive. There is also a Media Museum, which provides a contemporary look at the 21st-century global media landscape. Visitors can learn about the process of creating news, from research and fact-checking to writing and publication. Details like typography and layout are also explored, offering a deeper understanding of how information is shaped and presented to the public.

The museum doesn’t shy away from examining the future of media, with themes such as “Truth and Lies” diving into the complex relationship between fact and fiction in today’s media world. It’s a place where the past, present, and future of journalism come together to offer insight into the ever-evolving nature of global communication.
